A native of East Tennessee, Dr. Herrell graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, majoring in Biochemistry and Classics (Latin and Greek). He then attended the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, where he graduated in 2004 and stayed here to complete his residency. He is married with five children. His areas on interest include diabetes in pregnancy, urogynecology (including female incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and treatment of interstitial cystitis), minimally invasive gynecologic surgery with an emphasis in vaginal surgery, and family-oriented childbirth. His educational interests include novel methods of training, including simulation, web-based simulation, and educational videos. His has won multiple teaching awards and held numerous leadership positions.
